BIS Registration is a mandatory certification scheme for electronics and IT products under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) - governed by the Electronics and IT Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012. It is different from ISI certification (which is the licence scheme for industrial products).

Products covered

Over 60+ electronics and IT product categories are mandatorily covered: mobile phones, tablets, laptops, LED lights, power banks, smart meters, set-top boxes, printers, CCTVs, and more. The list is expanded regularly by MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and IT).

For whom?

Both domestic manufacturers and foreign manufacturers (selling in India) must obtain BIS CRS Registration. For foreign manufacturers, registration is obtained through an Authorised Indian Representative (AIR).

Governing authority

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs - same authority as ISI, but a different scheme specifically for electronics and IT goods.
